Crew Manager

Rio de Janeiro North/South America Apply before: 2025-09-05

At Maersk Supply Service, we believe that crewing is more than logistics—it’s about people. We’re looking for a Crew Manager who shares our commitment to openness, collaboration, respect and to build a trustful relationship with all stakeholders, especially our offshore colleagues. If you’re someone who values transparent communication and wants to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our offshore colleagues, we’d love to hear from you.

Who are we?
At Maersk Supply Service (MSS), we’re more than a marine solutions provider—we’re a team of people who genuinely care about doing things right. Based in Rio de Janeiro, you’ll be welcomed into a close-knit HR & Crewing team that thrives on collaboration, open dialogue, and mutual respect. You’ll work alongside colleagues from across the organisation, each bringing their own expertise to help us navigate the complexities of the energy sector with integrity, safety, and purpose.

We enjoy what we do! We have a flexible and energized work environment. Here, ideas are not just heard—they’re valued. We celebrate our diverse backgrounds and see them as a true source of strength. We work close together, humbling listening and learning from each other, and overcoming challenges together, “we” should come before “I”. Every day, we strive to create a supportive space where your voice matters and your contributions lead to real change. This role is a unique blend of operational excellence and human connection.

As a company, we are owned by A.P. Moller Holding, operating independently with the trust and empowerment to do what is right for us, while proudly bearing the Maersk name and values.

What You Will Be Doing
The crewing department includes several HR subsystems, and you will be invited to engage and lead them along your journey in the company. It is though important to say that supporting our offshore colleagues is the far most important task you will be doing.

The crewing team and you play a vital role in ensuring our seafarers feel seen, supported, and set up for success. This commitment reflects the fact that we can focus on our employees, and it is the main goal for this position.

In this role, you’ll be a trusted partner to vessel leadership and offshore colleagues, offering guidance on all people-related matters while acting as a reliable business ally. You’ll lead with purpose—coaching your team to deliver outstanding crewing support that aligns with compliance standards, strategic goals, and budget expectations. Empowering others will be central to your approach, as you help your direct reports grow professionally and maintain high performance. You’ll also serve as a role model, consistently applying Maersk Supply Service’s core values and Safety policies in every interaction.

Operational excellence will be part of your daily rhythm—from maintaining accurate crew data and managing costs to supporting vessel planning and timely invoice approvals. You’ll ensure crew readiness by monitoring qualifications, training, and compliance with local and international regulations. Collaboration will be key, as you work across departments, service providers, and regions to ensure seamless operations. Finally, you’ll help shape the future by contributing to process improvements and energising the team through quality-driven initiatives.

Who You Are
First and foremost, you are passionate about the maritime industry and enjoy building up trusted relationships, and you recognize the game-changing potential by working in crewing and the positive effect that you can bring to people’s life. In addition, we hope you can say yes to the following:

  • Proficiency in verbal and written English and Portuguese.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Administration, Economy or related areas.
  • MBA in Human Resource is preferable for this position.
  • 5 years on previous leadership roles. Previous roles in the Maritime industry would be an advantage.
  • Empathetic Leadership: Ability to lead with care, coach team members, and create a supportive environment where offshore colleagues feel seen and valued.
  • Strategic Thinking & Planning: Skilled in aligning crewing operations with compliance, budget targets, and long-term business goals.
  • Operational Excellence: Strong attention to detail in managing crew data, cost control, and vessel planning, ensuring smooth and compliant operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Comfortable working across departments, regions, and with external partners to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Business Partner Mindset: Able to build trusted relationships with vessel leadership and act as a reliable advisor on people-related matters.
  • Process Improvement & Quality Focus: Proactive in identifying opportunities to enhance procedures and energise the team through continuous improvement.
